Blitz: The Intern by Brooke Cumberland

Synopsis
She’s sexy, fierce, and a loud-mouthed know-it-all…and she’s completely off limits.

Cecilia isn’t your typical college student. Hell, she isn’t a college student at all, but that doesn’t stop her from applying for one of the biggest and prestigious enterprises in the Midwest.

She wants it. She takes it.
She doesn’t let anything get in her way when it comes to finding out the truth.

When Bentley Leighton, soon-to-be CEO of Leighton Enterprises, meets “Ceci,” he’s instantly impressed. He doesn’t have time to train a new intern. However, when he sees her that first day, his intentions begin to change.

He’s the boss. She’s the intern.
Nothing can happen. It’s against the company rules.

Then again, rules were made to be broken.

What starts as innocent flirting becomes raveled up into so much more—secrets, lies, deceit.

*The Intern is a three-part romantic suspense serial.*
Not suitable for readers under 18.

Excerpt
I’m browsing through emails on my phone as I ride the elevator down to the lobby. It halts on the third floor, and I back up to let more people on. I don’t lift my head up as the elevator starts again, but suddenly I’m hit with the sound of laughter.
It’s innocent, young, and vibrant. I’m intrigued, so I shift my body to get a better view of her. My eyes find the young girl in the front by the doors. I watch her from the side and notice she’s on her phone. She’s smiling wide and laughing with whomever she’s speaking to on the phone. The doors slide open, and I walk around a few people to exit, except the girl doesn’t move and I crash right into the back of her, pushing us both out of the elevator before the doors close. Instinctively, I wrap my free arm around her waist to catch her from face planting the floor. Her back is pressed against my chest and for a moment, I don’t want to let go.
Her phone isn’t as lucky. It slips out of her hand and lands on the lobby floor.
“Shit,” she curses and my arm frees her to bend down and grab it off the floor.
“I’m so sorry,” I begin apologizing as I step back. My eyes wonder to her bare legs and up her tone thighs to a pair of black workout shorts. She’s wearing a baggy sweatshirt as if she’d been running or working out. I can smell the fresh sweat on her, but it doesn’t turn me off. In fact, it does the exact opposite.
“That’s okay.” Her voice cracks as she turns around, and I finally get a good look at her. “Oh, Mr. Leighton,” she says surprised, and I immediately curse the bad luck that brings me to my new intern—Casey West.
“Miss West?” I finally say as she stares up at me in silence. “I thought you weren’t coming until Saturday?”
“Hide your disappointment, Mr. Leighton.” The corners of her mouth perk up into a cocky smile. “I was just picking up the paperwork and doing all the background check questions.” Her witty personality is spot on just like the last time.
Everyone that works or interns at Leighton Enterprises goes through an extensive background check for security reasons. All of the files are confidential, and only journalists reporting on the stories can know the exclusive information.
“Ah, yes. Of course, the paperwork.”
Paul failed to mention she’d be here today…
She continues eyeing me, and I wonder if she feels the electricity between us as much as I do.
“Well, I’ll see you Saturday, Mr. Leighton,” she says as she is seductively smiling up at me. She quickly turns around and begins walking toward the lobby doors.
I put my phone in my pocket and shake the thoughts of Casey out of my head. This is crazy. I can’t think of her like that. She’s my goddamn intern.

Review:

I have no idea how to start this review!  I am going through somewhat of a depression knowing that I will no longer follow the lives of Julianne, Nick and Travis.  I have been with them from the beginning and I don't want to say goodbye!  I feel like I am part of their family!!

This installment has Julianne still struggling to choose between her heart and her head.  She knows that Nick is the man for her, but can she give up on her love and childhood friendship with Travis?  Will Travis move on and get over his undying love for Julianne?

As I was reading this installment I felt like I was riding a sea of emotions.  From all of the ups and downs and twists and turns, I just didn't know who I would have chosen either!  Would I go with a true adult love, or the love of a best friend that I may have deeper feelings for?

I just loved this trilogy and I just want to live in the lives of these characters because I feel that I know them so well.  Lisa Suzanne has a superb way of providing character development to the point that the reader feels like they know each and every nuance of the characters!  Thank you for an amazing read Lisa!!

"...I have fallen deeper and deeper in love with you.  I know I will continue to fall in love with a different part of you every single day for the rest of my life."

"I am where I am meant to be, with the man who was made for me, and I know that this is just exactly as it should be."

When these two collide their electric chemistry has them racing towards their happily ever after, but is that enough?

Secret after secret bombards them, turning Gen’s peaceful existence into chaos and confusion. With more questions than answers, will she give it all up or fight, even if it’s more than she asked for?

Book One in the More Than DC series by T.J. Tims

Review:

I truly have to start this review out by saying that I absolutely ADORED this book!!  I just couldn't put it down from the instant that I started the darn thing!  The lead characters were so well written and the physical chemistry was smoking hot!  I just loved the dynamic that Gen and Lucas had, as well as Gen's relationships with her friends and sisters!  I am hooked on to this series and this is only book 1!!  I just can't wait for the future installments as I will be first in line to gobble them up!!

"The night I fist met you changed everything.  The first time you smiled at me, my whole world shook.  The axis shifted beneath my feet and never went back to normal.  I never wanted it to go back because it shifted for the better.  After I got you home that night and tucked you into bed, I watched you sleep.  Meeting you that night was like looking up at the sky and seeing a comet soar past.  Once in a lifetime.  You are my reality.  Every night since meeting you I fight sleep because you are better than my dreams."

Oh my!!  Who doesn't melt by reading that passage?  Bring on the next installment because I am more than ready!!  - Kelly

Twenty-one-year-old Elle Granger’s boyfriend broke up with her like a coward. He moved to another city without so much as a "goodbye." Devastated and embarrassed, Elle told friends the break-up was mutual and she endured the heartbreaking split without support from the people she's closest with. Instead, she embraced her librarian job as therapy and spent her nights medicated by a thick cloud of pot smoke. With her lungs, and heart, screaming for a break, Elle quits smoking cold turkey. Just when she's about to ask for support from her friends, and let them in on the truth of Jason's humiliating betrayal, her best friend moves to Spain.

Enter sexy-as-hell library patron Dominic, who literally knocks Elle off her feet during a memorable first encounter. Can he help her forget Jason's very existence? He can sure try, and Elle is more than ready to let him. Dominic makes Elle feel wanted and special, and puts effort into coming up with dates that don’t set off her Synaesthesia. Just when Elle is starting to feel whole again, Jason returns, determined to reunite. His effusive apology and reasons for leaving are a balm to her battered ego, but she rebuffs his attention.

But nothing good can last forever, and Elle catches Dominic in a devastating lie. How could she have been so wrong about both Jason and Dominic? Is letting Jason back into her heart a safe bet since he has already proven he can't be trusted? The wrong choice could see Elle's happy ending go up in smoke. But when your only choices are the devils you know, all you can do is JUST BREATHE.

Review:

I have to admit that I had somewhat of a difficult time just "getting" into the groove of this book.  The first chapter just didn't grab my immediate attention....but.....I ended up just adoring this read!!  The main character is just so likeable.  She has so many faults that she admits to and that she tries to live with.  She feels that deep down she just has too many faults and will find no man love her for who she really is.  Who can really fault her though?  With the way that her ex-boyfriend broke up with her....that would ruin any girl!

Enter Dominic.  He seems just too good to be true.  Can things really work out for Elle or is she just destined to be disappointed yet again and wallow in self pity once more?  I have to admit that I was really pulling for Dominic to win Elle over.  But what is a good read without a little angst?  There is plenty of that here!!

I feel that Elle finally realizes that she has been trying to find a perfect man...which we ALL know just simply DOES NOT exist!!  "I haven't just been living in a Rubik's Cube.  I feel like life is a Rubik's Cube.  There are endless combinations of twists and turns, choices we make that change who we are.  There are sides of ourselves that no one sees.  Imperfect faces we hide from the world."

In the end, I really liked this book!  I give this one a high recommendation!  Hopefully you will get swept away like I did!!  - Kelly
